What is the Consenso Agroindustrial?

It is an initiative launched by the Fundacion Directorio Legislativo which strives to build consensuses on the criterias and guidelines shared by the various stakeholders involved in the agro-industrial production chain.

The Fundacion Directorio Legislativo works to strengthen the institutional role of Congress and the legislatures in order to be truly representative and exert in an effective way to social demands.

The Fundacion Cambio Democratico supports this initiative since its inception, bringing their experience in the promotion and advocacy processes and constructive transformation of conflicts.

At first

In early 2009, the Fundacion DirectorioLegislativo understood the importance of articulating the various agro-industrial policy visions emerging from civil society.

So the NGO created the “espacio Consenso Agroindustrial”, a gathering, in order to think about the role of agribusiness in the national economy and the policies needed to promote the primary production sector in Argentina.

What are the objectives of the Consenso Agroindustrial?

• Create a space for independent and representative dialogue.
• Build consensus among the stakeholders in the agribusiness sector
• Encourage parliamentary debate to strengthen the national Congress and provincial legislatures.
• Generate new mechanisms for respectful dialogue between the productive sectors and policy makers.
• Promote the various proposals emergent from the dialogue space so that they may be accounted for in the enactment of legislation for the sector.

What are the issues we are working on?

Institutional Quality, fiscal credit framework, marketing, Regional Economies, Social investment, public works and infrastructure, investment in Technology, Agricultural Production, Beef and milk production and Agricultural emergency.

What is our work methodology?

The Consenso Agroindustrial is built on agreements because we believe it is the way to achieve common goals while respecting the different perspectives. We Base ourselves on dialogue, participation and consensus building for the common good.

This is the spirit of our meetings, organized to discuss proposals between the various political and agribusiness actors.

Achievements

•  Over 500 organizations from different provinces adhere to the process.
• We made a dialogue space comprising all political forces in both chambers and the executive branch.
•  We have signatures of support from lawmakers and authorities from distinct political parties.
•  We bring together in one space different institutions such as: the chamber of commerce, professional advisors and academicians, cooperatives, entities from the production, government entities, metalworking industry, civil society organizations, the grain sector, commercial, meat, dairy and unions
• We are capable of organizing social gatherings to influence legislative debate.
•  We managed to generate more than 10 documents on the interests of the sector and look at various legislative projects.
• We conducted 4 meetings with legislators and provincial sectors related to the agro-industry to work on legislation in this specific sector.

Consensus is possible, and dialogue is essential for its upbringing

In the framework of the Consenso Agroindustrial, three main topics of agro-industrial policies were addressed: regional economies, transportation and infrastructure and agricultural emergencies.
